Demand Response plays a pivotal role in helping grid operators balance and stabilize the grid during the tightest period. Most Demand Response programs are designed to stabilize the grid before the grid operator must take a decision to shed firm load. In most organized wholesale markets Demand Response is treated at par with generators and are allowed to fully participate in wholesale energy and ancillary service markets. Depending upon the characteristics of load and customer choice, DR can generate revenue, lower wire charges, and assist in customer’ decarbonization goal.
