A New Frontier: The Rising Value of Energy Storage in Corporate Sustainability
Description

As more renewable energy is built, the need for utility-scale energy storage is greater than ever before. Energy storage can replace dispatchable fossil fuel generation, improve grid reliability, and help transition the grid to 100% renewables. However, no widely accepted environmental attribute currently exists for energy storage and it is unclear how corporate sustainability can accelerate deployments. Our discussion will touch on the following: 1) the current state of the US energy storage market, 2) the emerging structures buyers may use to support off-site storage projects (e.g., T-EACs, tolls, carbon offsets, capacity, etc.), and 3) the potential trade-offs in ESG reporting, risk management, and operations.
