Speaker Bio
A 1991 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Manu Srivastava holds B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi.
Out of the 35 years of experience, Manu has worked for 19 years in energy sector, namely, natural gas, electricity, and renewable energy.
He has lead path-breaking innovative projects in the field of solar energy. His 750 MW Rewa Project has proved to be an inflection point in the history of solar energy in India: it was the first project in the country to provide solar energy at rates lower than that of coal-based power; this happened in the year 2017. It is the only project in the country supplying power to an institutional customer - Delhi Metro is running on this project – 65% of its daytime demand is met with solar power from Rewa. The project has been awarded World Bank Group’s President’s Award. Case study on the project is being used in Harvard University and Singapore Management University.
His recent 2025 Morena Solar-cum-Storage project provides 440MW of assured peak power for four hours and up to 440MW of solar power at an astonishingly low rate of INR2.70/unit, the lowest rate ever achieved in India. The US 3¢/unit rate is being acknowledged as a global benchmark and is helping establish the viability of solar and storage solution as a viable alternative to fossil-based fuel.
His Solar Rooftop projects have established a new way of setting up solar rooftop projects in the country – zero investment by the beneficiary and savings for 25 years. In this model, MP got the lowest rate in the country. The project has been successfully implemented in over hundred organisations in the state.
His Rewa and Solar Rooftop projects have been selected by Capacity Building Commission, Government of India as among the top 15 “Innovations in Public Administration” in the country.
He is engaged, both nationally and internationally, as an expert in renewable energy. His expertise is setting up projects that mitigate investor risk and enable lower price discovery, leading to wider adoption of clean energy. He is presently heading New & Renewable Energy department in the Government of Madhya Pradesh as Additional Chief Secretary.
